artist statement
I think the best art sits right on the edge between things; it has a bite, it seems to sit in contrast to itself, it’s not quite resolved. In not being resolved the magic is there, the glamour is in effect and it does so, not through meaning without substance, a deeply alienating thing that is only thought about but not felt; nor is it substance without meaning, purely aesthetics without any conception of why or what, but a fuzzy middle that allows interplay between both. Good work is both implied and explicit, it asserts what it's saying and yet paradoxically it is deeply ambiguous about what it's not, the most exciting work is often a mess, that mess allows the illusion of it being vivid and alive.
As for what I do, I try to make forms that have that rub of glamour and hopefully tread the line between those states.
